What is better, SEO or PPC?

It is a never-ending battle but more often than not the prior wins. You might think that I am getting biased already, but in the end, you will agree with me. To understand the elementary difference between the two let’s just define these:

SEO or Search Engine Optimization

According to Google – the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.

PPC or Pay per click

PPC stands for pay-per-click, a model of internet marketing in which advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked. Essentially, it’s a way of buying visits to your site, rather than attempting to “earn” those visits organically.

The difference to be precise:

As you can see from the screenshot above you can expect to find PPC Ads above the organic results and on the bottom.

By now you would have an idea that SEO requires certain skills or activities to climb Google search results and the PPC is paying for advertisements wherein your products or services show up on Google or any other search engine.

Who should go for SEO?

SEO is a painstaking task and requires persistent planning, strategizing and execution. Not only you require skills but a lot of resources. But, we internet users find the organic search results far more convincing. If it’s not a pop-up shop or a clearance sale, we recommend that you go for SEO. It is a long term commitment, but the results are more realistic and long-lasting. Medium-sized businesses and companies who want to destroy their competition should certainly go for SEO.

Who should go for PPC?

Small businesses across the world work with very less working capitals and more often than not stall because of fewer customers coming in to buy what they have to offer. PPC campaigns can bring in the much-wanted boost to the business temporality. If you have the knack of running the business, then you can surely squeeze out profits from the campaign and start a new one. But because of the fickle nature of user preferences and the market itself, running and relying on PPC campaigns alone can be suicidal.

Cost

SEO

If you are not familiar with how search engines work or don’t know anything about SEO then the best way to get search engine traffic is to hire SEO consultants to do the work you. They will charge a monthly or an annual fee.

PPC

PPC CPC can range from Rs 0.05 to Rs 100 or more at scale based on relevance and the niche. If you find it difficult to manage your AdWords ad account, you can hire PPC consultants.

Conclusion

This topic has been up for debate for ages now, but if you have to take the advice of an expert, you should definitely spend on SEO first. Investing in SEO will provide you much-needed insight into what your PPC campaign should be. I still believe SEO and PPC are subjective to one’s choice or preference but a long-lasting proposition in SEO is a temptation I cannot resist.
